DECK CADET OFFICER PRE SEA TRAINING

* CAREER AS A DECK CADET OFFICER IN MERCHANT NAVY:

A Deck Officer starts his career as a Deck Cadet. During the Pre-Sea Training he will be prepared for the Nautical disciplines and will eventually be responsible for the Navigation. Cargo handling maintenance and other associated duties on board a Merchant Navy Ships. After specified periods of intervening sea service on board a ship which will progress to the rank of Captain. The Career in Merchant Navy as Deck Officer is very rewarding both financially and also in job satisfaction, you get to see the world, meet different people enabling your to broaden your horizons and all totally free.

*The course objective :

The Pre-sea training is essential for every seafarer working on high seas to gain the knowledge on various shipping subjects, routine jobs onboard ships. Keeping in view the importance of marine safety as per the STCW'95 code as laid down by the international Maritime Organizations and Ministry of Surface Transport Government of India, every seafarer has to undergo (STCW'95) ,basic familiarization courses approved by Director General of Shipping.

The total duration of the course shall be 3 1/2 months. During training the cadets will be taken round the port and docks to have an elementary knowledge of the Merchant Navy port, dock,ship operations and will be given chance to visit and look at various foreign flag vessels in kakinada &  visakhapatnam pots.

All cadets after completing the pre-sea training need to obtain trainee - ship / apprentice ship with one of the foreign shipping companies to complete sea time required for 3rd mate / 2nd mate officer examination as the case may be. The sponsorship is often activated before commencement of the course.

 

However there have been a number of trainees who are at their request, with the assistance of the academy, have obtained sea service during or after the training.

**POST-SEA CAREER PROSPECTS:

You don't have to be at sea till you retire. After a successful stint, you can return to land where several opportunities await you like:

 ? Government Surveyors of Ships.
 CCargo and insurance Surveyors.
 CMarine Superintendents of Shipping companies.
 CPilots of ships at ports.
C Lecturers in Maritime Education.

***ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR DECK CADET OFFICER:

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: (i)   Pass in 10+2 or equivalent examination

(ii)  Pass in Degree Courses   (or)

(iii)  B.E/B.tech from a recognized Engg.collage (or) AICTE recognized institute.

AGE LIMIT: (i)  ... 18 Yrs

(ii) ... 22 Yrs

(iii) ... 24 Yrs

MEDICAL STANDARD: (i) Candidate should be physically fit  and mentally strong, fit for Sea Service under standard norms. (ii) Eye sight :6/6 with no color blindness. (Candidate is subjected to medical examination).

PRE-SEA  COURSE FOR GENERAL PURPOSE RATINGS

*ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Passed Tenth standard  or equivavalent examination with Sciences. Maths and English from a recognized education board.
MEDICAL STANDARD: Candidate should be physically fit and mentally strong, fit for Sea service under standard norms eyesight 6/6 with no color blindness.
AGE LIMIT: Above 17 years.
ENTRY: The candidate is subjected to medical examination by the academy at an approved  Govt.registred Medical Practitioner before admission.
