On selection you will go 3 ½ months residential Pre-sea training at Sea Horse Academy of Merchant Navy, Kakinada also followed by the Standard Certification and Watch keeping training as per the STCW'95, IMO regulations.
Engine Ratings are responsible for the operation and maintenance of Engineering and Electrical equipments on board ship. They are employed in engine room for routine maintenance upkeep of the different machineries, boilers, pumps etc., they basically assist the Engineer's in the routine functions of the engine room. At sea they keep a record and monitor the running of the machinery and assist the engineer there on duty.
On completion of pre-sea training, you will under go 9 months on board ship training. After completion of 9 months you will attend for Deck/Engine watch keeping certificates.

Educatioanl Qualifications : Pass in 10+2 or equivalent examination
Age : 16-25 Years
Medical Standards :
Candidates should be physically and
Mentally strong, fit for sea-services
under standard norms
Eye- Sight :
6/6 without glasses, and no color blindness.
(candidate is subjected to medical examination).
Duration of Training : 3 ½ Months
(The course is non- statutory)
